Shocked by the news of her recurring lymphoma, instead of looking forward to Christmas, Kayla Montgomery sees a difficult road ahead. It has to be a secret; she couldn’t bear the idea of her colleagues treating her differently because of it. All she wants is to do her job at the local library, and otherwise live her life in peace. Now she’s faced with a dilemma.

The only place Ben Beaulieu ever sees Kayla outside of the library is at church. When presented with opportunity to spend more time with her, he can’t pass it up—even as it leads him to unexpected circumstances.

Rather than lose herself to her worries, Kayla launches a fundraising campaign to help child-focused charities and cancer research. Ben, her best work friend and secret crush, fully supports her campaign. Trusting him with her newfound passion is easier than trusting him with her burdens and with her heart. Her faith may be strong, but what will it take to find her courage?

Review:

To Save a Life by Michelle Wright is the first book in Ms. Wright’s “A Star Creek Christmas” series. It is a clean, sweet romance story with endearing characters that have hearts for helping others.

Ms. Wright is a talented writer who has created a setting that could be anyone’s hometown and characters facing real life challenges. Her characters feel like friends and it is easy for the reader to get caught up in their lives – to laugh with them, hurt with them, and cheer them on.

ACTION: The action in this story comes from characters stepping out of their comfort zones to help plan or participate in fundraising activities during the Christmas season.

ADVENTURE: Introducing herself to business leaders in the community is an adventure for Kayla, who is more of an introvert. Stepping up to speak into a microphone to welcome people to the special events at the library is also part of Kayla’s adventure. Ben and Kayla share some adventures as they spend some time with each other outside of the library.

ROMANCE: The romance in this novel is light-hearted, playful, and sweet. It begins with a shopping trip to purchase a gift for Ben’s young niece.

RELIGION: There is a focus on Christianity as Kayla and Ben both pray and they both attend church. The focus of Christmas is on Christ’s birth as Ben portrays a wise man in the church Christmas play, and an outdoor Nativity scene touches Kayla deep within her heart. There are also a few references to Biblical scriptures.

FINAL THOUGHTS: To Save a Life by Michelle Wright is a feel-good story and when the reader reaches the end, it’s almost disappointing to say goodbye to Kayla and Ben. Participating in their lives is fun and engaging. If you like reading romance stories with a touch of humor about characters, that could be your friends or family members, who handle life’s struggles with courage in a hometown setting, you will definitely enjoy To Save a Life (A Star Creek Christmas Book 1) by Michelle Wright.
