Forget everything that you think you know… When murder is afoot, it might take magic to save the day. Meet Sabiya Feathercroft – the charming owner of a notions shop in the sleepy town of La Sola, Colorado, where magic abounds, and nothing is quite what it seems. A series of pranks, that seem at first to be relatively non-threatening, take on a sinister twist, when Sabiya realizes that she has a stalker…who happens to be a changeling. Does the stalker have anything to do with a certain mischievous gnome who recently met his untimely demise? Sabiya goes digging for answers, in case she might be next in line. Bridger, the handsome new guy in town, came to La Sola to make a new start, and finds himself caught up in a whirlwind of magic and intrigue, upon meeting Sabiya. Will he be able to keep sweet Sabiya safe? Will she be able to solve the crime in time to save herself?

Review:

ACTION: There’s really not much here when it comes to action, at least not of the fast-paced variety. There are a few moments that will make you gasp. It is a murder mystery after all! Don’t worry: there’s nothing graphic or gruesome about it. Sparx of Suspicion lives up to its Cozy Mystery genre. It’s, for the most part, a calming and relaxing read. I doubt you’ll find many murder mysteries described that way!

ADVENTURE: The adventure is centered around a classic whodunnit mystery. There are a couple different suspects. You’ll wonder who can and can’t be trusted. Another part of the adventure is getting to know our great cast of characters. Most of them are magical creatures like our leading lady, Sabiya, who’s an elf, Cyrus the centaur, Maggie the kitsune, just to name a few. Everyone has magic powers too, which adds to the fun. You’ll want to pull up a chair at Sparx Coffee shop and never leave!

ROMANCE: There’s a sweet whirlwind romance for Bridger and Sabiya. It remains sweet and innocent throughout the story. Seriously, it’s so wholesome! Where can I get a Bridger? I want one!

RELIGION: There’s not much here when it comes to religion. You learn early on that Sabiya goes to church, and you get the impression that her faith means a lot to her. Sabiya and Bridger attend a Christmas service together. Anything religious in this story is extremely minimal. I would like to see faith explored more, especially where Bridger is concerned. Anyone, no matter they’re religious background, will enjoy this book.

FINAL THOUGHTS: I loved this book! It felt like the perfect mix of Pixar’s Onward and Gilmore Girls with its mystical and quirky cast of characters. A fun and cozy read. It would pair well with a cup of tea. I didn’t want it to end, and I’m glad there’s a book two because I need more!

Sparx of Suspicion

G - This does not mean for general audiences, includes action, adventure, intrigue, and suspense. More violence is allowed, as well as mild language and mature themes.
