Despite a terminal illness, Ida is determined to live life to its fullest for however long she has left. What she doesn’t anticipate is falling in love. Or suddenly finding herself having an odd-looking angel named Craig and his mentor, the Angel Jack, looking out for her. Or rescuing a mysterious stranger who turns out to be a very unusual old lady who not only believes in having fun but also believes in miracles. Can there be a miracle for Ida?
Review:
A Thousand Forevers is the first of Joan Fennell Carringer’s “The Angel Craig” novels. She apparently wrote several books that include “The Angel Jack” prior to this novel, and though they are tied together, each can be read as a stand alone. This is the first book I have read by Ms. Carringer. A Thousand Forevers is an Inspirational Fiction book and clean romance story.
ACTION: A very active elderly woman provides lots of fun action in A Thousand Forevers. Ida, one of the main characters in this novel, and her friend, Nora, are shocked, surprised, and amused by the actions of this elderly woman. Her actions are sure to bring smiles to readers’ lips as well.
ADVENTURE: Ida and Nora go off on an adventure to get away from some stresses in their lives. However, the plan for their venture unexpectedly changes course and turns into an experience neither of them expected, but one that changes both their lives.
ROMANCE: A Thousand Forevers offers two sweet, clean romances. One romance is unexpected and catches two long-time friends by surprise. The other romance is a dream come true for one of the characters.
RELIGION: Christianity is woven throughout the story. The main characters believe in God, the Bible, and prayer, and three of the characters believe in angels. Angels are part of the story as well. The religious aspects of this story are not preachy. It’s just part of the main character’s everyday lives, but one of the characters has doubts and questions about her faith.
FINAL THOUGHTS: “The Angel Craig” listed in the title is a character in A Thousand Forevers, but he’s not the main character. This book isn’t centered around angels, though I think they make a wonderful addition to the story. Ms. Carringer does an excellent job of creating angels that come across as realistic and similar to other books I’ve read, with a Christian message, that include angels. I believe that Ms. Carringer created her angel characters based on her own Biblical knowledge of angels.
A Thousand Forevers by Joan Fennell Carringer is a story about realistic characters dealing with real life struggles. Ms. Carringer has a talent for drawing readers into the story and making them care about her characters in a way that keeps them reading. This is the first book I have read by Ms. Carringer and I hope to read more. She has a second book available that includes “The Angel Craig,” as well as quite a few books that include “The Angel Jack.”

N - May include magic and romantic themes, Does not include violence, strong language, and non-Christian religions.
